~ Janine Benyus<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">::\u00a0 ::\u00a0 ::\u00a0 ::\u00a0 ::<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.irasperipheralvisions.com\/WetPaint\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/treescraper_crop.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1861\" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" title=\"treescraper_crop\" src=\"http:\/\/www.irasperipheralvisions.com\/WetPaint\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/treescraper_crop.jpg\" alt=\"Treescraper\" width=\"432\" height=\"628\" srcset=\"https:\/\/irasperipheralvisions.com\/WetPaint\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/treescraper_crop.jpg 432w, https:\/\/irasperipheralvisions.com\/WetPaint\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/treescraper_crop-206x300.jpg 206w, https:\/\/irasperipheralvisions.com\/WetPaint\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/treescraper_crop-68x100.jpg 68w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 432px) 100vw, 432px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The image above is a screen capture from <a title=\"Inhabitat\" href=\"http:\/\/inhabitat.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Inhabitat<\/a>. \u00a0 It comes from a <a title=\"Mahesh Basantani\" href=\"http:\/\/inhabitat.com\/the-building-of-tomorrow-that-works-like-a-tree\/\" target=\"_blank\">2008 article written by Mahesh Basantani<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"William McDonough\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mcdonough.com\/full.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">William McDonough&#8217;s<\/a> proposal for a Tower of Tomorrow gives a compelling example of how Biomimicry operates.\u00a0 Working like a tree, this building &#8220;makes oxygen, distills water, produces energy, and changes with the seasons&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The building&#8217;s curved shape reduces the impact of wind and the amount of materials needed for construction.\u00a0 The building contains a three story garden (and I&#8217;d imagine that fruits and vegetables can grow in these conditions) and a green roof.<\/p>\n<p>Wastewater from sinks can be used to feed the building\u2019s gardens.\u00a0 The wastewater from the gardens can be used in toilets.\u00a0 The southern facade is covered with solar panels, which can provide up to 40% of the buildings usage.\u00a0\u00a0 Best of all, all the building materials can be recycled or &#8220;returned safely to the earth in true <a title=\"Cradle to Cradle\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mcdonough.com\/cradle_to_cradle.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">Cradle-to-Cradle<\/a> fashion&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>How exciting is this?\u00a0 In future entries, I hope to share a little bit more about similar projects, several of which have been built.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">&#8211;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Architect William McDonough\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mcdonough.com\/full.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">Architect William McDonough<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Cradle to Cradle\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mcdonough.com\/cradle_to_cradle.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">Cradle to Cradle<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Inhabitat\" href=\"http:\/\/inhabitat.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Inhabitat<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/inhabitat.com\/the-building-of-tomorrow-that-works-like-a-tree\/#ixzz1HiKEJWBN\">William McDonough\u2019s Treescraper Tower of Tomorrow | Inhabitat &#8211;
